What conversations do you have?
Last week I worked with Jim, an Insurance executive that reported great results with his public presentations. It was his day-to-day rapport with his peers and senior managers that was not going well. It seems that with his public presentations he was using great care to research the needs of the audience and then putting forth the time and effort to communicate with them effectively with great results. Jim was willing to look for ways to adapt this strategy for everyday use.
The 4 Ps came to the rescue. Jim decided that if he could “Plan, Prepare, Practice and Present” well in large groups he could do the same when he wanted to successfully communicate one-on-one. Jim is now:
- Planning what he wants to say ahead of on-on-one meetings
- Preparing for the meeting by gathering all the resources to support his point of view
- Practicing what it is that he wants to say, and
- Presenting what it is he wants to say, using all the stand-up presentation tricks he has learned over the years.
Jim is now receiving compliments and is now more efficiently completing his day-to-day responsibilities with the 4 Ps as his foundation.
